What Happens After You Vote in NC? Watch Our Video!

What happens after we vote? What does the tabulation process look like? Who does it involve?
It’s more important than ever that North Carolinians understand this process. Where do our election results come from?

This new video from the League of Women Voters of North Carolina describes the process.

“Election disinformation and misinformation are taking root,” said Marian Lewin, vice president of the League of Women Voters of North Carolina. “This cynicism and distrust are forms of voter suppression. Democracy simply cannot function in the absence of voter confidence. The truth is: Many safeguards are in place to ensure that voters’ voices are heard, and that our elections are free and fair. It’s important that voters are aware of the lengths our election workers go to in order to protect the integrity of our elections.”

In this video, we go over the process so that viewers can better understand how this all works in the days leading up to and following an election. Then, armed with this knowledge, viewers can help inform fellow community members.

Remember, you can trust this information because the League of Women Voters of North Carolina is a grassroots, non-partisan organization dedicated to encouraging citizens’ participation in government and understanding of important issues through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters neither endorses nor opposes political parties or candidates for office.

NC Voter Registration Information

North Carolina has revised the 2024 Voter Registration form. One of the key sections - Section 3 - requires Voter Identification Information - (1) Date of Birth and (2) NC Driver's License or DMV State ID, or Free Voter ID issued by your county Board of Elections or US Passport or passport card or various other NC State Board of Elections-approved forms of ID. [PDF of list of IDs approved on July 17, 2023]

Note: "If you have an NC driver's license or NCDMV ID number you must provide this number. If not, you must provide the last four digits of your social security number. If you have none of these ID numbers and you are registering to vote for the first time in North Carolina, you must check the box indicating that you do not have these forms of identification."

The voter registration cannot be processed if Section 3 is not completed.

Here is the entire NC Voter Registration Form.
